Burton-in-Lonsdale, on the River Greta (a tributary of the Lune), lies midway between High Bentham and Ingleton in the northern section of the Settle Circuit.  In earlier times it was noted for its potteries and became known as 'Black Burton' due to the abundance of smoke from the kilns.  There are about 600 residents and, as well as the Methodist Chapel, there is a Parish Church (All Saints'), a Church of England Primary School, a pub and a shop/Post Office.  The shop is owned by the local community.

 

The Methodist chapel was built in 1871, and is in the centre of the village.  It now has 23 members. The chapel is currently undergoing refurbishment and the so the church is holding its regular weekly meetings at 9:30am in the Parish rooms at All Saints Parish Church along with a monthly united service at 11am.

 

There is an annual summer Holiday Club, held in conjunction with All Saints'.

 

A weekly Friday Coffee Morning on the chapel premises is currently on hold pending the refurbishment.  Each January the chapel hosts a party for all the over 60s in the village.
